MY FATHER, MY FRIEND
My father is not just my father,
He is also my friend.
My father is not just my father,
He is my strength, my fortitude.
My father says he loves me,
I say I love him too.
He says that I am very pretty,
I reply: “I am just like you.”
He often reads my mind,
I ask him if he has magical power,
He smiles to remind me
That he is my dad.
When other eyes rest
Only on my outer shell,
He assures me that he’s always there.
When my best buddies
Desert me in a cloud of darkness,
He’s always there to hold me firmly.
Sometimes he makes me laugh a lot
Till tears come to my eyes,
And then I feel I ought to
Thank God for gifting me my precious him.
He taught me, to struggle, to fight
In the hardest situation,
He taught me to grow.
“Walk with your shoulder straight,”
My father told me once.
“Regardless of your height.
So that you can overcome
The hurdles in your life.”
So I lifted my eyes
And looked above the wall
Which had blocked tomorrow from my view.
Then he proudly looked at me and said:
“Look, there is a bigger you!”
