Muzaffarpur: Following directives from the police headquarters, the district police have outlined strict measures to control crime and tame fugitives.
SSP Harprit Kaur told The Telegraph that she has asked officers to paste photographs of criminals involved in looting banks and committing frauds with the bank customers on the walls of the bank premises and ATM kiosks.
"A meeting with the bank authorities has been held and they have been directed to keep CCTVs functional and seek help of the police officers while transporting huge currencies, including handing over heavy amount to its customers," said the SSP. She added: "It is generally seen that they take risky thing casually sometimes."
Regular checking of banks has been intensified and now the police officers are also covering ATMs. Customers may be quizzed outside the ATMs or if found loitering
"I have asked the SHOs to keep vigil of the activities of youths wandering uselessly in the vicinity of ATMs and the bank premises," said Kaur.
The bank authorities have been asked to guide the customers, the SSP added.
The police have decided to impose Crime Control Act on criminals who have been chargesheeted in more than two cases. The SHOs have been reprimanded for being lax in curbing crime and directed to give names of at least 10 criminals involved in murder, loot, snatching and theft cases to bring them into the network of CCA.
She said: "We are keeping a close watch on bootleggers."
