Birla Institute of Technology-Patna's annual sports event Prakrida concluded on Monday after four days of matches and cheers from students.

Football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, basketball and lawn tennis matches were held during the sports extravaganza with participation from IIT-Patna, National Institute of Technology, Maulana Azad College of Engineering and Technology, St Xavier's College and Chanakya National Law University students among others.

Anwesha gigs

Bangalore-based musician Vineeth Vincent performed on the inaugural day of Anwesha, the annual fest of IIT-Patna, last Friday.

Over the three days of the event, classical singer Ranjana Jha and her group performed Sufi songs and ragas. DJ Tejas played various songs for the students to shake a leg. Among the popular tunes were a mash-up of Sanam re and Sheila ki jawani.

More than 1,000 college students registered for the different events organised at the festival. About 400 students from Delhi Public School, DAV-BSEB and Kendriya Vidyalaya School also took part in Newton Circus (exhibition), quiz and rangoli-making competition, for the first time at Anwesha.

Duty for nation

"Self-governance is my birth right, but at the same time, responsibility comes upon our shoulders to justify it with our sincere and active involvement in nation building," said Harish Chandra Singh Rathore, vice-chancellor of Central University of South Bihar, on Republic Day.

Second-year biochemistry student Rupa Sinha said youths are the future of a nation. "Our role is very crucial in nation-building, which is achievable only by being disciplined in life and having a constructive approach."

The Republic Day celebrations on the campus started with a guard of honour to the vice-chancellor, followed by hoisting the national flag. Students performed skits, songs, and dance, while a special mime on "youths" was presented by Zeeshan Yasir and group.

Vice-chancellor Rathore also awarded medals, trophies and certificates to winners and the best performers of the annual sports competition held earlier in the month.

Debate tips

Law students from the Central University of South Bihar learned about improving debating skills at a workshop organised by the law and governance department's parliamentary debate committee last Tuesday in Patna.

Chanakya National Law University faculty adviser Pratyush Kaushik, accompanied by students Gaurav, Anubhuti and Ujjwal, conducted the workshop for the central university students and helped them understand the rules and technicality of the procedures involved in a parliamentary debate.

A parliamentary debate round has two teams with three members each. One team represents the government (proposition), while the other represents the opposition.

Dean, law and governance department, Central University of South Bihar, S.P. Srivastava presided over the session.

Satish, a second-year student, said: "Learning to speak in public provides us the skills to explore ideas, develop confidence and articulate opinions. Such workshops will help us to share our opinions and polish our skills."
