Speedy trial of accused Kunkun Singh alias Arvind Kumar Singh has been ordered within hours of his arrest in connection with burning of a youth to death in Rohtas district on Wednesday night.

Kunkun, the prime suspect in the case related burning of 15-year-old youth Sai Ram, was arrested from his native village Mohanpur under the jurisdiction of the Karakat police station in Rohtas district, around 130km southwest of Patna, on Thursday morning and booked under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.

Police said the accused was later produced before the chief judicial magistrate at Sasaram, who remanded him in judicial custody for two weeks. As the news about Kunkun’s arrest spread in the area, the state government announced to conduct the hearing of the case on a priority basis.

Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said in Patna that the Rohtas district officials have been directed to ensure that the case was listed for speedy trial so that justice could be delivered to the victim’s family at the earliest.

Rohtas superintendent of police Chandan Kumar Kushwaha said the accused had already been arrested. “We will submit a chargesheet against the accused within 24 hours.”
