Patna: The fate of Patliputra University students has been decided after months of uncertainty.

Patliputra University, carved out of Magadh University this year, will hold examination of students from the academic session 2018-19. All other students before the 2018-19 session will come under the Magadh University.

Sources said there had been confusion earlier over which of the two universities would conduct the examination of students enrolled in the 2017-18 session. The confusion slammed brakes on the annual examination of the 2017-18 session.

Patliputra University pro-vice-chancellor G.C. Choudhary said: "Based on the recommendations of the three-member committee comprising VCs of three universities, it was decided that Patliputra University will conduct examination of fresh students who have taken admission in undergraduate and post graduate courses in 2018. All other students, including those of the 2017-18 session, whose examination is yet to be held, will come under Magadh University."

The chancellor's office had formed the VCs' committee, as both Patliputra University and Magadh University were unable to decide the fate of students for the session 2017-18.

Sources said the students' fate had now been decided, colleges under Patliputra University will have three types of students - first, those enrolled with Bihar School Examination Board (students in Intermediate), first-year undergraduate students who will be admitted this year coming under Patliputra University and the third, students admitted in the university before the 2018-19 session.

A teacher at AN College, preferring anonymity, said: "We will have to teach three types of students - those from the school examination board, Patliputra University and Magadh University. The new move will create confusion as syllabus."

Students welcomed the decision.

Santosh Lal, a first-year student at RPS Law College, said: "We didn't know whether we would go with the Magadh University or with the Patliputra University. The decision to retain old students under the parent university is a welcome step, as our degree after completion of our undergraduate courses would have names of both the universities."
