Patna: Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, offered his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Friday, claiming that the state government was not allowing him to fulfil his duty as a parliamentarian.

In a two-page letter to Mahajan, Pappu wrote how he had gone to Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences last Sunday as part of the "Aapka Sevak Aapke Dwar" programme to provide financial help to the needy. He met around 60 patients on the evening of January 7 but on January 10, the IGIMS management lodged an FIR against him.

"The IGIMS has lodged the FIR on instructions of chief minister Nitish Kumar. I did not create any nuisance... I did not even use the public address system. As a people's representative I was just doing my duty and If I am not allowed to do so, then my conscience does not allow me to remain an MP," he told mediapersons in Patna on Friday.

Pappu held a similar programme at Ruban Memorial Hospital. "If helping the poor, who are in the trap of medical mafia, is a crime I think I can continue my crusade without being an MP," Pappu said.
