Patna Book Fair will be about a lot more than books this year.

Starting November 10, the 15-day fair would not only have stalls of booksellers from across the country but would also host events on cinema and theatre. Amit Jha, convener, Patna Book Fair, on Friday said: “The much awaited book fair is here again. Around 300 booksellers would take part. There would be 1,000 stalls. The event would be hosted at Gandhi Maidan and its theme would be ‘Awakening Youth’.”

Jha said books of this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature winner (Alice Munro) and Man Booker Prize winner (Eleanor Catton from New Zealand for second novel The Luminaries) would be available at the fair.

Children’s Book Trust would ensure that there are enough texts for the little ones to inculcate the good habit of reading. Prakashan Sansthan, Bihar Hindi Granth Academy and Kitabghar Prakashan would represent Hindi literature.

The organisers have also planned to organise “Bioscope” — a film festival. First films of young directors would be screened under the “First Cut” segment of the festival.

Jha said another attraction of the festival would be showcasing hobbies of people. “Naresh Chandra Mathur, who has been collecting editorial pages of English dailies for 45 years and has been recently recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records, would display his collection.”

Ratneshwar, the president of Centre for Readership Development, said: “Events like nukkad natak (street plays) and art exhibitions would be held every day.”
