Patna: Monsoon is expected to be kind to Bihar in the coming few days.
Having witnessed a turnaround in rainfall deficiency in the past few days, the state is expected to receive widespread to fairly widespread rain till Monday.
In meteorological parlance, rainfall is said to be widespread when 76 per cent to cent per cent area of a given geographical zone (in this case it is Bihar) receives rainfall, whereas it becomes fairly widespread when 51 per cent to 75 per cent of a geographical area receives rainfall.
"The prevailing synoptic features suggest that Bihar is expected to receive widespread rainfall till Friday whereas the state is expected to receive fairly widespread rainfall in the weekend. On Monday, chances of widespread rainfall are there once again," said an official at the Patna meteorological office of IMD.
Citing reasons for the prediction, the official said a low-pressure area, which was hovering over eastern Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday, had now covered parts of adjoining areas in Bihar as well. "Also, a cyclonic circulation is associated with the low-pressure area which is extending up to 5.8km in height."
The Met official said the monsoon trough line, too, was likely to shift northwards, which would create favourable condition for rain in the state.
As far as the rainfall deficiency is concerned, the state had received 40 per cent less than normal rainfall till June end but this came down to 23 per cent by July end and on August 2, it went down to 22 per cent.
Rainfall is said to be normal if its departure remains in the range of +19 per cent to -19 per cent.
