Patna, June 19: Parents with children to be admitted to Class XI in city schools, be ready to loosen your purse strings.
Manoj Sharma, whose daughter has to be admitted in Class XI, said: “I want to ensure that my child gets admission in a reputed school. However, hefty admission fee has become a matter of concern for me.”
With a moderate income and two other children to be looked after, Sharma is feeling the heat. He has abandoned his other duties to try and arrange the money. Students who took the school-based exam are a little better off. They will not have to pay too much. However, those who took the board-based Class X exam have to cough up a hefty sum for admissions.
Anita Singh, another parent, said: “We have to ensure that our children get quality education. For this we can forgo a meal everyday.”
Anita, too, is spending sleepless nights while her husband does the hard work to gather the requisite amount.
She said: “As I am a homemaker, my husband has to deal with the entire thing. He has to arrange for Rs 25,000 for the admission. It all depends on him. He has to manage everything. I can only lend him moral support.”
Schools, however, have a counter-argument. They claim that the admission charges include fees for three months and security money of Rs 5,000. This is the reason the amount is higher.
Ramanuj Prasad, principal, DAV, BSEB, said: “We have to pay salary to the employees and the teachers. From where will we generate the funds for that? We cannot help but charge the guardians. Postgraduate teachers are paid around Rs 30,000 each. Senior teachers, who have been working here for more than 10 years, are paid even more. We cannot help but charge high fees.”
