A three-member team of a mobile lok adalat from the state capital arrived in Samastipur district on Tuesday to dispose of cases. The team will organise legal camps at five places of the district over the next four days.
The team comprises retired additional district judge Sarveshwar Nath Singh, Patna-based high court advocate Rajesh Kumar and social activist Shankar Tiwari.
On Tuesday, the lok adalat was organised at Patori. As many as 89 cases were disposed of.
The secretary of legal awareness and chief judicial magistrate of Samastipur, Shiva Nand Mishra, told The Telegraph: “A three-member team of mobile lok adalat arrived here from the state capital today. Chairperson of district legal service authority and district and sessions judge Nishanath Ojha, its secretary and additional chief judicial magistrate Sangeeta Kumari flagged off the mobile lok adalat in the district from the circuit house. They will hear cases related to civil suits, mutation, bailable cases and those related to bank loans over the next few days.”
He added: “Several simple cases are pending before the courts, which are overburdened. Therefore, the role of the mobile lok adalat becomes vital. It helps in disposing of cases by organising legal camp in the litigants’ locality, who can easily approach the camp to get justice at their doorsteps.”
On the objective of the lok adalat, Mishra said: “The team has two objectives. First, delivering justice at the doorsteps of the litigants in simple cases. Second, creating legal awareness among the masses. If the simple cases pending in the lower courts are solved, the court fee will be returned to the parties concerned.”
A source said: “Cases are resolved by judicial members with the mutual consent of both the parties in the legal camps. Before organising legal camps, the banks, circle officers and others persons concerned are asked to come. The state government provides such legal aid free of cost.”
The lok adalat camps will be organised on March 28 at Tajpur, where cases of Tajpur, Pusa, Sarairanjan and Mushrigharari blocks will be heard. On March 29, the adalat will be organised at Varishnagar and the cases of Kalyanpur block, Samastipur block and the adjoining areas would be heard. On March 30, the lok adalat will spend the first-half at Rosara and the second-half at Dalsing Sarai.
