Darbhanga, Nov. 28: Maharajadhiraj Kameshwar Singh Kalyani Foundation re-released George Grierson’s Notes on the District of Gaya today to commemorate the 105th birth anniversary of Darbhanga’s last ruler.

The book, the 15th publication in a series on the history of Bihar, incorporates vital information and disseminates knowledge on the heritage of the state. Eminent sociologists Dipankar Gupta from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, P.K. Bose from Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta, and Hetukar Jha, retired faculty member of Patna University and managing trustee of the foundation also delivered lectures at the event.

Gupta told The Telegraph: “I consider the lack of political will and proper governance as reasons behind Mithilanchal not developing into a tourist hub of India.”

Jha, who assembled the scholars, told The Telegraph: “Maharajadhiraj Kameshwar Singh was a versatile genius, who was surrounded by great scholars throughout his life. I thought assembling eminent scholars of international repute would be the best way to remember him and his past glory. He spent most of his time on public activities, economic development and turning Darbhanga into an education hub. Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University and Lalit Narayan Mithila University are the best instance of his intellectual works.”

A six-minute documentary film, Pride of Mithila, directed by Darbhanga resident Vikas Jha was also screened for the audience, who also came from Madhubani and Samastipur.
