Residents of Patna would soon be able to reflect on reflections while amusing themselves with mirrors at Srikrishna Science Centre.
The facility — to be developed as a part of the Image and Mirrors Gallery — would have 60 exhibits complete with digital equipment that are expected to take your breath away.
“In the mirrors section of the Image and Mirrors Gallery, a maze spread over 400sqft would be constructed. All the walls of this area would be made of mirrors. It will be a sort of amusement centre, where visitors would be able to see different reflections of themselves. They would also be able to learn how the mirrors alter reflections depending on where they (the mirrors) are placed,” Anurag Kumar, the former project director of Srikrishna Science Centre, told The Telegraph.
Kumar, who has been recently transferred to Delhi and was closely associated with this project, added that the state-of-the-art facility would be developed at Rs 70 lakh.
He added: “The image gallery would be the first-of-its-kind in the country. Visitors to the gallery would be entertained and educated at the same time. There would be a number of studios in the gallery to display different types of imaging, like visuals, 3D, medical imaging, photography, lenses and pictures formed by the human eye.
“Visitors would get to learn about the different kinds of images. But it will not be all work and no play for them. They will also be amused as they learn. For instance, one would feel like standing in a pond or playing football or hockey by looking at the gesture-controlled images at the virtual gallery. Similar techniques would be used in other studios, including to educate the viewers on the basic concepts of imaging.”
The technical works on the Image and Mirrors Gallery at the Gandhi Maidan campus of Srikrishna Science Centre is likely to start by the end of this month.
“National Council of Science Museums, our parent body, has approved the gallery project for Srikrishna Science Centre, Patna. The technical work for this project has commenced at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum, Calcutta — the eastern zonal headquarters of National Council of Science Museums. The infrastructure work has also commenced at Srikrishna Science Centre. The technical team is likely to be done with its work in Calcutta and arrive in Patna by the end of this month. They would complete the Patna leg of the project within a month,” he said.
