The state’s own Chulbul Pandey, Shivdeep Lande, drew the loudest cheers during the prize distribution ceremony for an inter-school quiz contest on Wednesday.
Lande, now aide-de-camp (ADC) to the governor, and Sushil Kumar, the jackpot winner of the fifth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, graced the contest’s final held at Rabindra Bhavan. Six teams of two members each had reached the finals after event day prelims, also held on Wednesday. St Michael’s High School students Vivek and Aakash went home with the first prize.
Over 30,000 students from 32 schools in the city had taken part in the school selection round for the quiz between April 15 and 20. Eligible to compete were students of classes VIII to XII.
Of the 28 teams who reached the second round (event day prelims) included members from Loyala High School, St Michael’s High School, St Xavier’s School, Don Bosco Academy and DAV, Gola Road.
The six top teams — Don Bosco Academy, DAV Gola Road, Radiant International School, International School, Loyala High School and St Michael’s High School — reached the final round to fight it out over six rounds.
Round one to four, the teams answered questions on general awareness, culture, world and brand and technology. Two of the six rounds also dealt with the audio-visual when the teams were asked to recognise monuments, personalities and instruments.
Cheering all the way were fellow students in the audience, who came with creative placards and inspirational messages.
The fifth round raised many eyebrows, as the lowest scoring teams till the fourth round had to select the theme for top scorers for the fifth round — the most high-scoring round of the quiz. The options were history, food, culture, politics and mythology. Leaving the rest of the teams behind, St Michael’s High School scored 145 points to win the quiz and smart phones. Radiant International School and International School bagged the second and third positions.
The prize distribution ceremony turned into an autograph session with Lande. The ADC, former Patna superintendent of police, said: “I am happy that all of you still remember me. I am impressed by the participants and more by the students cheering their teams.”
