Patna: Police investigation has revealed that Faiyaz Alam, a final-year postgraduate student of Katihar Medical College, was murdered.
Faiyaz, a resident of Balsa village under the jurisdiction of Barauli police station in Gopalganj district, was found unconscious in room number five of the boys hostel of the college under mysterious circumstances on March 20 this year.
He was rushed to the hospital where he died during treatment.
A complaint was lodged with the Katihar mufassil police station on the statement of Faiyaz's uncle Amir Umroon. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.
The station house officer of Katihar mufassil police station Arvind Kumar Singh said the post-mortem report confirmed that Faiyaz was killed.
"Neurogenic shock as a result of head injury is the cause of death," the SHO said quoting the post-mortem report.
The station house officer, who is also the investigating officer of the case, told The Telegraph over phone on Thursday that the investigation would gain momentum after the receipt of the post-mortem report.
"Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the killers," he said.
The investigating officer said scientific evidence would be gathered to substantiate the allegations against the accused. He said the culprits would not be spared and investigation was proceeding in the right direction.
"I have sought directions from the seniors to interrogate a few suspects. The deceased's family members had accused the college administration of negligence, which led to the incident," Singh said, adding that the role of senior administrative officials of the institution was under the scanner of the police.
The police had sealed the room of the deceased soon after the incident.
A sniffer dog was also pressed into service but in vain. The deceased's father Farooq Azam, who was posted in Saudi Arabia, also reached Gopalganj after he came to know about the incident.
Sources close to the family said his relatives were informed by the college administration that Faiyaz had met with an accident and his condition was serious. When the relatives reached Katihar they found Faiyaz dead.
"Marks of deep stab wounds were visible on his head and back," the deceased's uncle claimed in his police complaint.
The police have, however, failed to make any headway in the case so far.
