Patna, Aug. 14: A senior IPS officer of Bihar cadre, Sunit Kumar, is among the 19 police personnel, who have been decorated with different police medals on the occasion of Independence Day.

While 12 police personnel have been awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service, six others have been awarded the President’s Medal for Gallantry.

Sunit Kumar, who is presently posted as the additional director-general in the state crime record bureau here, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services.

Six police officials, including DSP (traffic) Shashi Bhushan Sharma, DSP (rail) Rajendra Singh, inspector Ajoy Kumar Singh, sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar, havildar Ram Badan Paswan and constable Mohammad Ghulam Mustafa have been awarded the President’s Police Police Medal for Gallantry.

SB Sharma, Rajendra Singh and Ajay Kumar Singh have been decorated with President’s Medal for Gallantry for the second time during their service. These police personnel have been awarded for killing three notorious gangsters of Patna, including Vicky Sharma, in an encounter in Kankerbagh police station area of the state capital.

Twelve police personnel have been awarded President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Services. The policemen are SP (vigilance investigation bureau) Sudhir Kumar, Patna BMP commandant Suresh Prasad Choudhary, BMP-14 DSP Ashok Kumar Sinha, Forbesganj SDPO Shiv Kumar Jha, sub-inspector (headquarters) Mohammad Naushad Alam, steno/sub-inspector in DGP’s office, Rakesh Kumar, Bhagalpur havildar Murari Mishra, Patna constable Subodh Singh, Patna constable Kailash Sahni, Special Branch sepoy Soikoth Bhattacharya, Special Branch havildar Umesh Thakur and Special Branch sub-inspector Sunil Kumar Singh.
