A team from the Medical Council of India concluded its two-day inspection at Darbhanga Medical College on Tuesday.
The visit of the MCI team assumes significance because last year, the team had recommended reduction of 10 seats from the 100 bracket of the MBBS course at DMCH.
Only after Darbhanga Medical College principal R.K. Sinha prodded, the MCI allowed it to run the 100-seat MBBS course.
Sources said the MCI team is expected to submit its report to the council within 48 hours. The MCI executive body would then examine the findings.
Apart from records pertaining to the joining date, the team sought promotion and salary structure of faculties on Tuesday.
In marathon meetings at the principal's chamber, reports related to the nature of seminars conducted were looked into. The principal said the college professors had long teaching experience.
"We have 90 seats in the MBBS course. If the MCI nods, we will have all the 100 seats recognised. In fact, the intake of 10 seats was permitted by the MCI in 2013-14 as one-time measure. It was subject to inspection by the MCI," he said.
A source from DMC said the MCI team was unhappy to see the poor state of the emergency building of the DMCH.
"The MCI team pointed out lack of books and journals in the college library. The college administration had stated a wrong figure regarding the number of books and journals. The MCI team found less number of books and journals than what was stated by the college," said the source.
Reports related to the nature of pathological and radiological test facilities were also taken into account. The three-member team comprising doctors S.S. Sayyed from Gandhinagar, Pradeep Garg from Rohtak and Naagraaj C. from Bangalore, also raised objection on the paucity of teachers in the various teaching departments.
A source said many doctors were found missing from duty during the two-day MCI team visit.
The principal was on leave on Monday. However, he joined the inspection team in the evening. Earlier, hospital superintendent Santosh Kumar Mishra assisted the team.
