Patna: The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2018, which was conducted on Sunday, was more of a bitter-sweet experience for most aspirants.
Many found the test lengthy and tough because it needed a lot of calculation. For most candidates, the mathematics paper was demanding as it was purely concept-based.
The chemistry section relied on formula but physics was easier compared to previous year's.
Most students after taking the test said the mathematics paper will be the deciding factor in this year's results.
Aryan Raman, an IIT aspirant, said: "The mathematics paper was tough, especially the calculus and the coordinate geometry sections. Physics was easy but had conceptual questions."
Another candidate Saurabh Anand said: "JEE-Advanced was tougher compared to JEE-Mains. Questions were tricky and required a lot of calculation, which made it lengthier."
Anand said because of time constraints he failed to attempt several mathematics questions.
Super 30 director and ace mathematician Anand Kumar said: "This year going by the feedback from students and after going through the question papers we have come to know that the cut-off marks for general category will be 35 percent, for the OBC it will be 32 percent, for the SC/ST it will be around 17 to 20 per cent."
From the IIT-Guwahati zone, under which Patna and other Bihar district falls, around 12,000 candidates took the test. In Patna there were 20 examination centres and a few in Gaya.#Apart from JEE-Advanced, the entrance test for Simultala Residential School was also conducted on Sunday.
The examination was held for 120 seats in Class VI. The examination comprised 150 marks - 30 for Hindi, 25 for science, 25 for social science, 40 for mathematics and 30 marks for English.
