An FIR was lodged on Monday against K.K. Lohani, a doctor of Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, for allegedly pushing a mason from the terrace of his three-storeyed Station Road house on November 23.
According to the FIR, the mason, Shakeel Akhtar, on Monday succumbed to the serious head injuries he had suffered in the incident.
The ostensible reason behind the incident was Shakeel's demand to clear his pending wages. The doctor, however, refuted the charge and claimed that no wage was due to the mason.
Gaya city deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Alok Kumar Singh said investigations had begun in the case.
Mohammad Sajid Ahmad lodged the FIR in which he claimed that he and Shakeel were working at the house of the doctor for the past two months. The duo went to the terrace of the doctor's house around 9am on November 23 as usual. The doctor too arrived on the scene. Shakeel requested him to clear wages for 15 days as mentioned in the FIR.
The doctor began abusing Shakeel. On further insistence, he pushed Shakeel off the terrace. He was rushed to hospital but doctors referred him to Patna.
Shakeel lived in a rented house near Kathokar Talab with wife and two children, Asif (19) and daughter (17).
Asif, a BCom Part III student of Gaya College, said: "My father worked hard to enable me to pursue masters in business administration. Now, the family's responsibilities are on me. It will be difficult to build my career," he said.
The doctor claimed: "Actually, the mason slipped from the bamboo scaffolding put up for plastering the outer walls of the house. I immediately admitted him to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital."
"As there is no neurological department at the hospital, the doctors referred Shakeel to Patna Medical College and Hospital. But the mason's relatives admitted him to a private hospital in Patna. I financed his treatment. I paid wages to the workers daily," he added.
