Patna, June 5: Jitan Ram Manjhi today accused chief minister Nitish Kumar of neglecting his security, couple of days after the mango rivalry, following the discovery of an empty liquor bottle on the 1 Aney Marg grounds.
Manjhi, the former chief minister, who occupies the chief ministerial bungalow in spite of demitting office this February, spotted the bottle while he was planting mango and litchi saplings - the same fruits he accused Nitish of blocking his access to on Wednesday - on the premises.
Losing his cool, he said: "Time and again I have said there is a threat to my life. If a liquor bottle can come inside this bungalow, a bomb can also be brought here. Nitish has intentionally neglected my security - such incidents are a complete security breach."
Manjhi had been conducting a meeting of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) core committee before the liquor furore. A few video journalists present at the spot tried to capture its footage but were stopped by HAM supporters, apprehensive about being blamed of drinking during the meeting at the high-profile residence.
Their boss although said: "All our party workers were in the meeting hall. I am surprised how the liquor bottle entered 1 Aney Marg. Whoever did this is an agent of Nitish Kumar."
Yesterday, Nitish had scoffed at Manjhi's charges that he had deputed policemen to keep an eye on the fruits and had said he would buy and send them over to his former protégé. Today, Manjhi hit back at that too as he said: "Such kind of talk shows his cheap mentality. He should be aware that I get the same salary as him."
Incidentally, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, too, jumped on the mango-litchi bandwagon at a function in Araria district. "Rabri Devi and I had planted those mango and litchi trees at the chief ministerial bungalow so we get the first right to consume it."
Manjhi was quick to react. He said: "Mango and litchis are not an issue for me. Whoever wants to have them can take it. If Laluji wants, he can very come here to get it."
