
Patna: Ram Nagina Singh alias Banarsi, 50, was arrested for allegedly luring and teasing four girls from Aasra Home, a shelter home in Rajiv Nagar.
Banarsi used to live as tenant at a house next to the shelter. Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said: "He has been booked under sections 354 (A, B, C, D) and other sections of the IPC. The man for past few days was allegedly luring girls from Aasra Home by offering them chocolates, fruits and other eatables." A medical test of the girls who tried to escape will be done. Officials from the state child protection commission, too, reached the spot.
The shelter home located at Polson Road in Rajiv Nagar and being run by NGO Anumaya Human Resources Foundation and the social welfare department was given the task to run Aasra Home in April 2018. Seventy-five girls with a majority of them mentally challenged were living in the three-storied building.
DSP (law and order) M.K. Sudhanshu said: "Banarsi, after unscrewing the window panes, had lured four girls to escape. The girls had even managed to reach the terrace." When other people from the house came to know about the incident, they informed the shelter home caretaker.
Manisha Dayal, the treasurer of the shelter home, said: "We came to know from our landlord and informed the cops. We are lucky that no girl is missing from the home."
Dilip Kumar Kamat, assistant director, Bihar state commission for protection of child rights, said: "We visited the spot. The persons involved in the incident will be punished."
The shelter home has 13 female staff guarded by three male guards.
