Patna police on Sunday arrested the 25-year-old man, who had bludgeoned his father to death a few days back.
Amit Kumar and his relative Dilip Kumar were arrested for murdering Arun Singh. Amit has confessed of murdering his father Arun, a mason.
On March 1, the Kankerbagh police had found the body of a middle-aged man in a closed room at the house of a doctor at PC Colony in Kankerbagh. The body was identified as that of Arun, a resident of Beldaur in Khagaria. Arun was living in Patna for the past few years and had taken the doctor's room on rent.
A few residents in the area told the police that two days before the body was found, Amit and one of his relatives, had visited Arun's house and since then it remained shut.
Amit told the police that he bludgeoned Arun by hitting him on his head with a hammer. A senior officer with the Kankerbagh police station said: "Amit confessed of killing his father. He said after the death of his mother in 2012, Arun was having relationships with different women. He had asked his father to mend his ways, as his relationships were bringing bad name to the family. Amit also told us that apart from having relationships with different women, Arun had ill intentions towards his daughter-in-law (Amit's wife)."
According to Amit, he was fed-up with his father's activities and decided to teach him a lesson. Amit and Dilip conspired to kill Arun.
Police sources said Amit and Dilip had a heated discussion with Arun over his relationship with women. Irked over the altercation, Amit hit Arun with a hammer. The police said Amit kept hitting Arun till his father died.
The police have recovered the hammer. Amit and Dilip have been booked under Section 302/34 of the Indian Penal Code.
City-based psychologist Brinda Singh said the trend is dangerous for society, as the new generation has no love or respect for elders.
Singh said: "People who have broken families and whose families witness regular fights, children in such families are impulsive. The man might have killed his father because he was concerned of bad repute that his father might bring in to the family because of his father's relationships with other women."
Singh added that that such people are psychopaths and have anti-social mentality. "Such people are not able to control their anger. Amit might also be afraid of his ancestral property getting divided if his father marries again," Singh said.
Proper counselling and guidance from family members help in reforming such people, she said.
