Munger, Jan. 4: Six years on, the masterminds behind the killing of superintendent of police, Munger, K.C. Surendra Babu are still at large.
Observers point out several lapses on the part of the police to investigate the case properly. Former deputy inspector-general of police (DIG), Munger zone, M.A. Kajmi in his supervision report pointed out several loopholes in the probe.
Kajmi, in his report mentioned about one Krishnanad Yadav, a dismissed constable who was said to be instrumental in spreading the tentacles of CPI(Maoist) in the rural areas of Munger. Kajmi mentioned that Yadav enjoyed active patronage from some influential political leaders in the region. Kajmi held Yadav responsible for the killing of Surendra Babu along with five other policemen. Yadav’s name surfaced recently during the Kajra ambush in neighbouring Lakhisarai district where five cops were killed and four others were taken hostages by Naxalites at Kodashi valley last year.
“The name of Yadav was highlighted after sub-inspector Abhay Yadav was released along with two other cops by Maoists,” admitted a senior police officer.
Kajmi mentioned two more persons — the driver of a private vehicle by which Haveli Kharaghpur police supplied food at the rest house inside Bhim Bandh and the chowkidar of Paisra hamlet, located near the blast spot, who disappeared soon after the incident. The Munger police have not been able to apprehend either of the three.
