Patna, Feb. 6: For Ishan Kishan, morning does not show the day always - at least it did not today.
Opening for the team, the Under-19 national captain got out quickly - scoring just 6 in the third over of the game against Namibia in ICC Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh - only to get the good news hours later.
Gujarat Lions bought the southpaw for Rs 35 lakh during IPL 2016 auction.
Although Ishan, 17, was not available for comments, his family members expressed happiness over their son getting an entry into the IPL season 9. Pranav Kumar Pandey, 46, Ishan's father, was watching the quarter-final match when the auction was going on.
"I was more interested in watching the match as my son was plying. When the match got over, one my friends called me and informed that Ishan has been bought by the new IPL team, Gujarat Lions, for Rs 35 lakh. I was very happy to hear it," Pranav said at his flat of Ampra Plaza Apartment in Rajendra Nagar.

In today's match at Fatullah, India won by 197 runs against Namibia to set up the February 9 semi-final berth against the winner of England versus Sri Lanka quarter-final.
Last time Ishan - also a wicketkeeper - was seen here on January 14. He left for Bangladesh on January 20. He had visited Moin-ul-Haq Stadium to watch the match of All India Sunaina Verma Memorial Cricket Tournament. There, he met deputy chief minister Tejaswi Yadav who was chief guest of the tournament.
Tejaswi, who was also a cricketer and made an entry to IPL donning Delhi Daredevils colours, extended his best wishes: "I congratulate Ishan for making into the IPL. It is a blessing for young players. At the same time, it is sad part that our talented players are playing for other states not Bihar. Due to this problem, even I had to play for Jharkhand. I am in talks with the BCCI at my level and we are trying to get Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) as recognised body so our players need not to go to other states."
Ishan plays for Jharkhand and he was selected for its Ranji team in 2014. "Due to lack of infrastructure here, I had to send my son to Ranchi. He had a passion towards this game since eight. After going to Ranchi, he used to play for SAIL and in 2012 he was selected for Under-16 team. Based on his performance, he was selected for Under-19 followed by becoming its captain. It is a proud moment for the entire family," said Pranav, a contractor.
About any communication from Ishan after the IPL news, Pranav said: "Ever since he has gone to Bangladesh, he has not contacted me. Sometimes, he sends me WhatsApp messages. I just want him to concentrate on his performance and my only dream is to see him playing for Team India seniors."
Even Ishan's mother Suchitra Singh expressed her happiness: "I am a proud mother today and just praying that he should perform better in his upcoming matches."
Bihar Players Association president Mritunjay Tiwary said: "Our state can produce more Ishan but players are missing the opportunities due to lack of sports infrastructure and conditions."
