At least six block development officers (BDOs) posted in different districts, including Patna, have received letters asking them to quit their posts in 15 days or face consequences.

Investigations have revealed that the letters have been sent from Jharkhand's Giridih to different officials across Bihar.

On June 10, Pankaj Kumar Nigam the Dhanarua (Patna) BDO received a letter in his office in which he was asked to leave his job and go within 15 days or else the office would be blown up with dynamite and he would be "responsible for the same".

"I have informed the matter to police. The letter had three names as senders - Mantu, Ravindra Verma and Anjani Kumar Sinha. It was said that they hail from Giridih and call themselves Maoists," Nigam said, claiming he was not afraid.

Patna district's Masauri BDO Krishna Murari also got the same letter on June 10 too. "The content was the same except that the letter was addressed to me. I was shocked at receiving the letter and informed the local police station and an FIR has been lodged," he added.

Bela (Gaya) BDO Anupam Kumar received the same letter with the same names and content on June 7. "How can I just leave my job just because of a letter? The letter says that the trio are Maoists. Also, the letter does not ask for any money," he said.

Barun (Aurangabad) BDO Dhananjay Kumar was the most scared. "Since the letter reached me, I am trying hard to forget about it and asked for security too. But I am not able to forget. I stay alone here and my family too is frightened," he said.

Around two months ago, a similar letter was sent to the office of Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary which had the names of the trio and said the Assembly building would be blown up within 15 days.

During investigation, the police had found out that Anjani Kumar Sinha and Ravindra Verma were lawyers based in Giridih and had nothing to do with the letters.

"The two lawyers who are based in Giridih will be questioned in detail again and help is being sought from the Giridih police in this connection. The men involved in this, will be identified soon and arrested," Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said.
