Sitamarhi police have said Lebanon citizen Fadi Aziz Fadel will have to face trial for wrongful entry into India and he can't be excused because an officer demanded bribe from his family for help.

Fadi was arrested on July 8, 2016. Police said he entered India from Nepal without a valid visa and the Lebanon citizen accused then sub-inspector Vijay Kumar Gupta of demanding Rs 10 lakh as bribe from a relative.

Fadi called on additional director-general (headquarters) S.K. Singhal on Monday, seeking action against two Sitamarhi cops for allegedly implicating him in a case.

The Sitamarhi police are, however, in no mood to relent.

"Fadi has to face the trial in the local court for the offence he has committed. He entered Indian territory without a valid visa thus violating the Foreigners Act, 1946. A chargesheet has already been filed," said Sitamarhi superintendent of police (SP) Hari Prasath S. on Tuesday.

Fadi, Prasath said, has been booked under sections 367, 368, 471, 420, 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code and section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946.

A senior officer associated with the probe said if convicted, Fadi will serve five years for violating the foreigners act. Besides, he may have to serve 10 years for being convicted under Section 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Sitamarhi SP Prasath said officer Vijay Kumar Gupta has been suspended.
