Police have decided to tighten the noose around history-sheeters ahead of Assembly polls. Such people would have to turn up at police stations concerned on a daily basis.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ranjit Kumar Mishra had a detailed interaction with police officers and representatives of political parties and outlined a strategy to clip the wings of troublemakers who try to influence voters using muscle power during polls.
The SSP said he had decided to act tough with criminals and troublemakers - including those out on bail - who intimidate voters and indulge in other nefarious activities in the vicinity of polling booths.
Ranjit has directed field officials to provide a list of history-sheeters so that a tab could be kept on them. The idea is to compel toughies to register their attendance at police stations in writing.
