Patna, Sept. 28: Government Railway Police (GRP) today arrested a 35-year-old woman, Rani, for her alleged involvement in the theft of laptops from running trains.
A laptop, which was stolen on July 24 this year, was also recovered during a raid in Vaishali district.
The station house officer (SHO) of the GRP at Patna Junction, Ram Pukar Singh, said: “Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a village under Desari police station in Vaishali district and recovered the laptop that was stolen from Abhinav Kumar.”
Two illegal weapons were seized during the search of the house of Pankaj Kumar, who was using the stolen laptop.
Pankaj was handed over to Desari police and was subsequently forwarded to jail after the illegal weapons were recovered.
During interrogations Pankaj told the police that he had purchased the laptop from a Patna City resident with the help of Rani, who was staying in the house of his relative under Alamganj police station.
Subsequently the police took Rani into custody.
“Efforts are on to take Pankaj on remand for further interrogation. There is a well-knit racket involved in laptop thefts and other costly articles from reserved compartments of important trains. The police personnel attached to Patna GRP are on their job,” the SHO said.
He pointed out that Abhinav had lodged a case with the Patna GRP in connection with the theft of his laptop from a train.
The SHO added that a police team was constituted to solve the case and apprehend the persons involved in the crime.
