Patna, April 10: RJD chief Lalu Prasad today slammed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat's visit to the state capital and accused him of spreading poison in the society.
The RJD chief vowed to "expose" Bhagwat's ideology.
"Eyeing the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Mohan Bhagwat is visiting Bihar to spread poison but I must tell him that his attempts will go to waste. Inki daal nahi galegi Bihar mein (roughly: he is wasting time in Bihar)," Lalu said outside his 10 Circular Road residence before departing for Bakhtiyarpur to take part in a religious event.
Bhagwat, who arrived in Patna today, will address a "Hindu Sammelan" in Jharkhand's Deoghar tomorrow. He will return to Patna tomorrow and leave for Mumbai on Wednesday.
This is not the first time the RJD chief has trained his guns on the RSS chief to consolidate his position among voters. Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections in 2015, Lalu had picked up Bhagwat's call against caste-based reservations to corner the BJP.
"He (Bhagwat) was defeated in Bihar when he tried to spread poison and now he is trying to repeat the same," Lalu said today.
The RJD chief stressed that his party was putting in place plans to defeat the RSS ideology. "We have organised training camps and a national executive committee meet in Rajgir from May 2 to 4 to prepare a strategy against the RSS ideology. I will expose him and the RSS ideology in front of the people. Their only agenda is to create disturbance and communal disharmony," Lalu said.
Members of the Dharmanirpeksha Sevak Sangh (DSS), an organisation formed by Lalu's Tej Pratap Yadav, showed black flags to Bhagwat outside Patna airport as well as at Vijay Niketan, the RSS state headquarters in Rajendra Nagar, today. When the DSS members were protesting outside the RSS office, the police detained them.
Lalu justified the DSS protest against Bhagwat.
"The DSS is a secular front and has been formed to counter the RSS," the RJD chief said. "It is obvious that when Bhagwat has come to create communal tension, the DSS will protest against him."
Eight days ago, Tej Pratap had rolled out a rally under the banner of the DSS at Miller High School and said he will climb on Bhagwat's chest if he tries to spread communal hatred. The health minister had also claimed that the DSS would stop the chariot of the RSS in Bihar.
During the protest today, Tej Pratap was not present either outside Patna airport or at Vijay Niketan.
Earlier in the day, Lalu attacked the BJP, apparently over raking up the issue of an under-construction mall in Patna that his family owns.
"Along with dividing country on communal line BJP hv launched a campaign to do character assassination of all prominent opposition leaders. BJP&sponsored media doing propaganda setting to malign image of all prominent opposition leaders e.g Mayawati,Kejriwal,RG, Mamata,Lalu etc," he tweeted.
