Patna, May 4: Lalu Prasad today left for New Delhi to resume the process for deciding the name, flag and symbols of the new party that the six Janata parivar factions formed under the stewardship of Mulayam Singh Yadav last month.

"The formalities of deciding the name, flag and symbol of our new outfit will be completed in a day or two. Chief minister Nitish Kumar too will come to Delhi to attend the meeting of the parivar factions to be presided over by Mulayam," JDU national spokesman K.C. Tyagi said over phone from Delhi.

Sources said Nitish would be going to New Delhi soon to attend the meeting.

The state JDU chief, Bashishtha Narayan Singh, is set to leave for the same purpose tomorrow, his office confirmed.

Nitish had gone to Delhi on April 25 to have a meeting with Mulayam and others in connection with deciding the name, symbol and flag of the new outfit. But the massive earthquake on the same day forced him to proceed for Bihar, suspending the meeting.

With normality returning and relief work drawing to a close, Nitish is set to join the process of formalising the merger of Janata parivar factions - a crucial decision ahead of Assembly elections due this winter in Bihar.

Recently, Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav said the Left should join the Janata parivar to fight capitalist forces that are being promoted by the BJP-led government at the Centre.

"I ask Communist party leader Atul Anjan to join Janata parivar. It's the need of the hour to fight capitalist forces being promoted by the BJP government," Shivpal said.

Shivpal said only his Samajwadi Party was capable of dealing with communal forces and threats posed by the capitalists.

"We (the SP-led Uttar Pradesh government) have launched a number of schemes for all sections of the society including labourers. Only SP could take care of all sections in an unbiased way," he added.
