Patna: Leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is staying back in Mumbai to look after his father, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who is admitted at the Asian Heart Institute there.

Tejashwi was supposed to leave Mumbai for Patna on Wednesday but he cancelled his ticket at the last minute, RJD sources said.

The doctors attending to Lalu said that he needs round the clock super specialist medical care as he has an abscess, and his diabetes also needs specialised care. He is currently on antibiotic treatment.

Those who have extended their wishes for Lalu's speedy recover include Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla, actor Riteish Deshmukh, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, and badminton player Jwala Gutta.

Tejashwi went to Mumbai on August 19 and had met his father in the hospital the next day. That night, Tejashwi had posted a tweet: "Visited my ailing father admitted in Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai due to various diseases. Perturbed to see his falling health & increased infection.Praying that he may recover soon under the around-the-clock monitoring & continuous medical care of specialist doctors."

Speaking to The Telegraph over phone from Mumbai, Tejashwi said on Wednesday: "As per the doctors, my father is a known case of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and benign hypertrophy of prostate. He has been operated for aortic valve replacement, closure of patent foramen ovale (hole in heart) and aortoplasty in 2014. Recently he had undergone fistulectomy. He has complaints of abscess in suprapubic area and uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and is on antibiotic treatment. He needs round the clock super specialist medical care."

Lalu went to Mumbai on August 6 for a medical check-up and has been in that city since then. Earlier, Lalu had spent 13 days in Mumbai and undergone surgery for fistula.

He has been granted provisional bail by Jharkhand High Court for treatment. He was granted provisional bail for six months on May 11 this year, and later the court extended his provisional bail on medical ground for another six months.

"I am just praying for his speedy recovery and people from different fraternities have extended their wishes for my father's speedy recovery," Tejashwi said. "I am really thankful to all of them. My father is in really in critical condition and I can feel that he has become weak as well. He was talking to me in a very low voice and keep on saying only one thing - to look after every family member and not to get tense over his health."
