Patna, June 15: The RJD is desperate to quell confusion that has arisen in the party's rank and file after it decided to stitch an alliance with the ruling JDU ahead of the Assembly elections and also accepted Nitish Kumar as the chief ministerial candidate.

On Monday, the party convened a meeting of its office-bearers, workers, sitting and former lawmakers of six districts of Patna division.

With state leaders in tow, RJD chief Lalu Prasad made an all-out effort to send a message to the party workers that the unity of the two parties was good for the people and the state.

"This is not a simple Assembly election. Rather, a victory here would give us the strength to remove the BJP from the power at the Centre as well. This is an election for the country and not of any state. Stand united and don't carry any confusion," Lalu told the party leaders and workers.

The party has planned to hold similar meetings for eight other divisions from June 19 to 26. It, too, would be held in Patna.

"It is not an election to elect any chief minister. Rather, we have to make our government so that the BJP could be driven out of the country. Don't get confused by the canards being spread by the BJP and the RSS agents. Stand firmly behind the alliance," he told an impressive gathering of party leaders and workers, who applauded on several occasions during the course of Lalu's speech.

Pappu takes dig

Madhepura MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav today took digs at chief minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad, challenging them to contest the upcoming Assembly election separately.

"Both Nitish and Lalu have cheated the Yadavs and the Muslims of the state and have not done anything for the two communities. Nitish and Lalu are poisonous than the RSS for the Muslims. The same goes with the Dalits as well in the state, their rights have been neglected and crushed," said Pappu, while interacting with the media at his residence in North Mandiri.
