Amity Global Business School, Patna, students received their degrees on Friday at the institute’s fourth convocation ceremony.

The students also received presents and awards. A cultural programme was organised too.

Vikram, a final-year management student, said: “Though we are graduating from the institute and have been placed in reputable companies, we will always remember the two years we spent here. We will always remember the joy and sorrow we shared together.”

Institute director CBP Srivastava said in this era of production, the role of business managers has become important. Managers have to explore their talents and opportunities, he added.

Srivastava also said: “Many Amity students had been placed in reputable companies with a handsome package before graduation.”

The chief guest at the convocation was Sanjay Srivastava from Amity, Noida.

Sanjay said: “In this era of competition, students are expected to be all-rounders. A management guy should be aware about every topic.”

Academic boost

The UGC Academic Staff College at Patna University held the valedictory function of its 67th orientation course last Wednesday.

Apart from the participants, several senior faculty members from Patna University also attended the event.

Prabha Shukla, the director of UGC Academic Staff College, welcomed the guests and presented them details of the four-week course. She also advised the participants to be involved in academic work other than teaching.

Y.C. Simahadri, the vice-chancellor Patna University, giving his presidential address explained the objective of the University Grants Commission in organising such academic programmes. He emphasised the role of university teachers in building a knowledge society in Bihar.

Other scholars who addressed the gathering were former Magadh University vice-chancellor Shamshad Hussain, IIT-Patna faculty member M.B. Sharan and head of department, education, Patna University, Mohammad Wassay Zafar.

Patna University faculty member A.K. Rohatgi proposed a vote of thanks after the 25 participants were presented their certificates.

Explore talents

Sri Arvind Mahila College would soon develop an art and culture centre on the campus, said Patna Sahib MP Shatrughan Sinha May 31.

He was at the college to inaugurate the Krishna Hostel and a language lab. Accompanying him were wife Poonam and son Kush.

Addressing the students, Sinha said: “I always wanted to take part in youth festivals in college, but for some reason, I never could. I want the students here to get every opportunity to explore their talents. So, an art and culture centre would be developed for this purpose.”

He added that the art and culture centre would be equipped with all the modern facilities.

Madhubala Verma, the in-charge principal of Sri Arvind Mahila College, spoke about the facilities available at the new language lab. “Initially, students would be taught only English at the lab. Later, other foreign languages would be taught.”

The Krishna Hostel, Verma said, would have a capacity to accommodate 50 students.

She added that the institution has taken many steps to upgrade facilities at the college.

Shivnarayan Singh, a faculty member of Sri Arvind Mahila College and co-ordinator of art, culture and literary programme, said: “Shatrughan Sinha has asked us to submit a proposal for the proposed art and culture centre. He has promised of providing funds — Rs 1 crore or Rs 2 crore — needed to develop the centre. The Patna Sahib MP said the centre would have various departments, including music and dance. The college’s music department would soon send a proposal for the centre’s development.”

Later in the day, a cultural programme was organised before the Patna Sahib MP.

Central spot

Central University of Bihar has shortlisted applicants based on the results of its entrance test for the first phase of examination and interview later this month.

The controller of examinations, C.L. Prabhavathi, said the candidates who qualified in the Central University of Bihar Entrance Test 2014 would have to sit for a written test and interview between June 16 and 19. Based on the results, the final selection for admission to the undergraduate, postgraduate and MPhil-PhD programmes would be decided.

The written test and interviews would be conducted at the Patna campus of the university. The candidates would have to appear in a written test of their first choice (of subject) declared in the application form.

Public relations officer Mohammad Mudassir Alam said an interview of 50 marks would be conducted for the integrated undergraduate programmes — BA/BSc/BEd and BA/BSc/LLB between June 16 and 18. A written test of 30 marks and an interview of 20 marks would be conducted for the postgraduate and MPhil-PhD programmes from June 17 to 19.
