Two teenagers questioned the character of their mother, who was awarded life imprisonment by a local court here on Wednesday for killing her husband by conspiring with her lover in 2012.

In a sensational courtoom drama, Nitish Kumar (16) and Nilu Kumari (13) who were part of the prosecution's witnesses, levelled serious allegations against their mother, Baby Devi (32), for having a relationship with their school van driver Manikant Yadav (30).

The mother and her lover had allegedly conspired to eliminate the children's father. "She is a dirty woman. We are sorry for giving our mother this tag but she is our enemy and we want to see her at the gallows," Nilu had told the court earlier.

The court of the third additional sessions judge, Bhagalpur, Sushma Trivedi, on Wednesday sentenced Baby and her lover Manikant to life in jail for conspiring and killing Sushma's husband Ramanand Ram, on February 15, 2012.

The court punished the duo with life imprisonment under sections of 302/34 and 201/34 and additional seven years rigorous imprisonment under Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code.

The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 15,000 on the duo and ordered to distribute the amount among her two children.

Additional public prosecutor, Sriprakash Bhagat, had earlier requested death penalty for the two accused, as the case fell under the "rarest category".

"It is historic that children openly alleged their mother of having a shady character and of conspiring their father cold bloodedly," Bhagat said underlining the intensity of the case.

However, defense lawyer Abhaykant Jha, prayed for a lesser punishment as there was no eye-witness of the murder and the case was based on circumstantial evidences.

Bhagat said the deceased and Baby used to work as Grade IV employees at a private school in Kahalgaon. Baby entered into a relationship with Manikant, a van driver in the same school. Their two children studied at the same school.

In 2009, the school management had suspended Baby and Manikant after it came to know of their relationship.

The deceased also quit the school job and settled with his wife at Khankitta village, 19km from Kahalgaon. He started working at a medicine shop.

Manikant, a native of Bariarpur village, also settled down in the same locality where the deceased with his family started living in a rented house.

The deceased reportedly went missing from February 15, 2012, and on February 23, 2012, his body was found in a well at an orchard at Jhurkushia village in Sabour.

"She should be hanged to death for the heinous crime she has committed. We would move the Patna High Court to get justice for our father," said Nilu.

The FIR was registered with Industrial police station in Bhagalpur by Kumud Ram (67), the father of the deceased, who alleged that his daughter-in-law, Baby Devi, and her lover Manikant killed his son to hide their relationship.
