Patna, June 25: Suspended JD (U) MP Upendra Kushwaha, who recently formed his own political forum named Bihar Nav Nirman Manch, today criticised chief minister Nitish Kumar on Forbesganj police firing issue and demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
The firing, which took place on June 3, left four people dead, including a pregnant woman and a ten-month-old baby. The state has ordered a judicial commission to probe the matter.
“The incident proves the law and order in the state has collapsed. The chief minister who claims to provide sushasan (good governance) has failed to take action. We don’t think a judicial probe is enough to punish the culprit, therefore we demand a CBI inquiry to get a clear picture of the incident,” Kushwaha said.
He also informed that he along with other JD (U) rebels, including MP Mangni Lal Mandal, former MP Arun Kumar and others, visited Bhajanpura village on June 23 to speak to the family members of victims who were killed or hurt in the police firing while protesting against an upcoming factory.
“We demand that the state government immediately recommend a CBI probe into the incident and pay Rs 10 lakh each to the family of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to the injured as compensation. We also demand the state government lodge an FIR against the culprits,” said Kushwaha.
“The incident has also exposed Nitish’s double standards towards Muslims, as all the victims were from the community. It is unfortunate that no action has been taken against the errant police officers who are responsible for the inhumane act, he said.
