Patna, July 16: Several automobile dealers today said they were overburdened with the task of monitoring high security registration plates for vehicle owners.

Under the banner of the Automobile Dealers’ Association of Bihar, they met Patna district transport officer (DTO) Dinesh Kumar Rai.

“According to the current process of dealer-point registration system and the issue of high security number plates, a vehicle owner gets a temporary registration number at the time of purchase and fills up the registration form. The dealer submits the registration documents at the registration counter and gets a letter signed by the DTO after about 10 days,” said Mrinal Kumar Singh, project co-coordinator, Budha Automotives Pvt. Ltd (Volkswagen Patna), Didarganj. “The dealer takes the letter and submits it at the district transport office, after which the authorisation slip for affixation of the plate is issued. The dealer or his representative has to run around during these 10 to 14 days, for which he is actually not bound,” he added.

Rai said the security plate system was being implemented in several other states with the dealers’ support.
