Patna, June 14: Chain snatchers, beware. The city police are going “invisible”.

The police are going to step up their efforts to check the free run of criminals who have become a major cause of concern to the people of the state capital.

There have been several incidents of bikers snatching ornaments and jewellery of women walking on the roadside in various areas.

The Patna police have created some police posts for continuous patrolling and vehicle checks in the areas.

Under the responsibility of one probationary sub-inspector and two constables, these policemen would be present on the spot and would be continuously moving along the designated area. They would conduct checks of vehicles between 10am and 4pm.

City superintendent of police Shivdeep Lande told The Telegraph that certain areas where incidents of chain of chain snatching are rampant have been identified and police posts are being set up there.

“These posts are not the contemporary police posts at all. It has got nothing to do with a concrete structure. Some police stations areas where chain snatching is rampant have been selected and apart from the regular police patrols, there will be these three police officers on the spot all through the day conducting patrols and checking vehicles, especially bikers,” the officer said.

Lande said, SK Nagar Road number 8 has been selected as one of the areas for the “invisible” police patrol.

“There are other areas as well. But we do not want to disclose their names so that the criminals don’t get alert. The PSIs have been made fully responsible for the areas under them. Strict action will be initiated against them if they are not found on duty. DSP (Law and Order) Lalit Mohan Sharma has been made incharge of these posts,” the SP said.

The state capital has witnessed many incidents of chain snatching with the last one on June 10, when two bikers snatched a gold chain from one Munni Devi at the CDA Colony area under the Shastri Nagar police station.

The incident occurred at around 2pm.

The women had come down to a roadside shop for buying some chocolates for her grand son when the men sped past her snatching her chain.

Meanwhile, in yet another move, all the police stations of the state capital have been directed to divide their areas into sectors with each sector having a quick mobile service on disposal.

For example, the Shastri Nagar police station has been divided into five sectors with each of the areas under a Quick Mobile policeman who will be continuously patrolling the sector throughout the day until 9pm, the City SP said.

“The police stations have been asked to hold studies and divide their areas into static points or sectors according to their readings. One sector can have four to five localities in all. Each of the localities will have two policemen on a Quick Mobile motor bike who will be on continuous patrol all the time. They will be first reporting to the local police station at 7am and then will be off on duty until 9pm. The men not present in their respective sectors will be suspended immediately,” the officer said.

These steps, Lande said, apart from the regular police patrol, would ensure an effective crime control in the areas.
