Class X student Rohan Gupta is worried over the fast depleting non-renewable energy sources but he has the answer to fix the problem — judicious and optimum utilisation of energy sources.

Gupta of PN Anglo Sanskrit School, Patna, has created two science models showcasing energy generation through renewable source of energy.

Explaining the system, Rohan said: “My first windmill has blades in all directions. The other one has blades on two sides and the current is generated only if it receives air from the two sides.”

He has also conducted a survey of 100 households in his locality and has prepared a biogas plant, which can produce 12KW energy by using human waste and other residual material of the 100 houses.

Rohan, however, is not an isolated case who came up with innovative science models. Several students put up models conveying the message of power consumption and unique ways of saving energy at the Inspire camp put up on the occasion of National Education Day function at Gandhi Maidan. The three-day function concluded on Wednesday.

To focus on science tutoring, the education department had prepared two pavilions — Inspire and Science — for students to showcase their scientific temper.

Chhaya Kumari, another Class X student from Gandhi Smarak High School in Kaimur had prepared a chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)-free refrigerator or “village fridge”.

A CFC is an organic compound that contains only carbon, chlorine, and fluorine, produced as a volatile derivative of methane and ethane.

“I have placed charcoal layers around four layers of wooden box. At the top of the wooden box are small water tanks with small pores. The charcoal layers absorb the outside heat, keeping the temperature in the inner layer cooler than the outside temperature,” she said.

Nidhi Kumari, a student of a government high school at Barharia in Lakhisarai, had prepared a herbal tonic to fight malaria. It was a mix of chirata and papaya.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar had on Monday inaugurated the function at Gandhi Maidan.
