Patna: Modern art on city buildings may seem far-fetched in Patna at the moment, but that's one of the works to be implemented under the smart city project.

The artwork will be displayed on eminent buildings of the state capital, and at least 50 such buildings - government and private - would be identified for the project.

Patna divisional commissioner-cum-chairperson of Patna Smart City Limited Anand Kishor said that at present 21 buildings have been identified on which 3D wall painting would be done.

"Attractive 3D wall painting would be done in the entire ABD (area based development) area and also outside the ABD area," Kishor said on Wednesday, soon after holding a meeting with officials concerned.

"However, consent would be taken (from the owners) as far as private buildings are concerned. If they (the owners of the buildings) will not give the consent, we will not force them.

"Tiles mural work will also be carried out on those buildings in which broken tiles, ceramic tiles, terracotta tiles would be used," Kishor added.

Some of the buildings which have been identified are Maurya hotel, the GPO building, Sone Bhavan, Mona Cinema, and Ashok Cinema.

Artwork with metals will also be displayed - it would be mix-media relief art.

"There is also a plan of installing interactive sculptures at different places including parks," Kishor said.

He cited examples of what such interactive works of art could look like.

"For example, there would be a shape of a comb but actually it would be a place where people can park their vehicles. Or there is a structure shaped like a hand that actually would be like a chair on which people can sit. So these things would not only be art but also have utility. There would also be monumental iconic sculpture which will increase the beauty of the city."

By July 21, the proposal for the plan would be submitted, and by August the work order would be issued. Work will start by October and the completion target is six months.

The theme, subject and matter of the wall painting and other art would be discussed later.

Similarly, the budget to set up a state-of-the-art integrated control and command centre in the state capital has increased from Rs 145 crore to Rs 220 crore.

The centre is being set up at the Police Line colony under the smart city project.

Kishor said that several other components were added in the centre, due to which the cost has increased. The components were added after Kishor visited Madrid and Barcelona last month to understand the concept of a smart city.

Under the smart city project, 3,100 close circuit television cameras would also be installed, out of which 1,700 would be used for traffic management and 1,400 for city surveillance.
