ID cards for street vendors

The government will give footpath vendors operating in Patna designated space to work from and identity cards in a bid to regulate them in the growing city.

The vendors will be charged a nominal fee for the facility the government will provide them.

This decision was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday.

The cabinet also approved the Bihar State Footpath Vendor Scheme and Rules at the meeting.

Principal secretary, cabinet secretariat, Brajesh Mehrotra said altogether 38 agendas were approved at Tuesday's meeting.

Among the several decisions taken, the cabinet approved creation of 75 posts each in different categories for the upcoming medical colleges at Bettiah, Madhepura and Pawapuri.

"Creation of altogether 225 posts for the three medical colleges was approved by the cabinet according to standards recommended by the Medical Council of India," Brajesh said.

The cabinet also approved advance withdrawal of Rs 1,133 crore from the state contingency fund for the social welfare department to implement the Integrated Child Development Scheme and social security schemes among other programmes.

Approval for release of around Rs 400 crore was also given to 17 different projects belonging to the water resources department.

The cabinet might again meet on Wednesday to discuss the state budget for the 2017-18 financial year.
