The owner of a premier hotel and his private bodyguard were arrested from Patna on Friday, allegedly on charges of forgery and possessing an illegal weapon.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said R.K. Singh, the owner of Gargee Grand hotel on Exhibition Road, was arrested with his bodyguard Saroj on Friday.

The police took both the accused into custody after a complaint was lodged with the Gandhi Maidan police station that Singh's private bodyguard was keeping a weapon and donning a police uniform in violation of prescribed rules.

During verification, the police found that Saroj had procured an arms licence from Jammu and Kashmir on forged documents. He had introduced himself as a former soldier in the documents furnished for procuring licence, the SSP told The Telegraph.

Singh, however, purchased a six-round revolver from a Saran resident on the basis of the forged arms licence. "We have sent a team to Saran to ascertain the truth," the SSP said and added that the bodyguard had also been accused of misusing police uniform.

A case of forgery and also under Arms Act has been lodged against the hotelier and his bodyguard. Both the accused were later produced in a court that remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days.
