Boarders of Rajya Ambedkar Kalyan Hostel, Katira, are still in a shock over the wrath of the supporters of Brahmeshwar Singh “Mukhiya” on the day the former Ranvir Sena chief was murdered. Terrorised and scared that they would be attacked again if they returned to the hostel, most of them are yet to go back.
Some of them addressed a news meet organised by All India Students’ Association (AISA) in Patna on Wednesday. They claimed that despite making several pleas to the Bhojpur district administration officials, no security arrangements have been made for them. The hostel has not been renovated either after it was vandalised.
Brahmeshwar was shot dead near his home in Ara — the headquarters of Bhojpur district — on June 1. Soon after his murder, his supporters among the upper class Bhumihar went on the rampage in the town, destroying public property.
Maharaj College student Shabir Kumar, recalling the violent incidents of June 1, told The Telegraph: “The supporters of Brahmeshwar Singh attacked our hostel armed with iron rods, sticks and inflammable substance. They set fire to our property and vandalised our rooms, while shouting anti-Dalit slogans.”
He added: “Though the office of Bhojpur SP (superintendent of police) is just about 500m away from the hostel, no policeman came to our rescue though the troublemakers attacked the hostel thrice.”
The hostel — reserved exclusively for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students — houses 250 pupils in two four-storey buildings. AISA has planned to stage a demonstration in front of Bhojpur district magistrate office to protest against the attack.
