Education minister Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma inaugurated AN College's sports meet, attended by more than 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students, on Wednesday.
He stressed on the importance of sports and games in student life as he said sports "not only makes an individual healthy, but a person can even make a career out of it". Sachin Tendulkar, M.S. Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Saina Nehwal, P.V. Sindhu and many more, he said, have excelled in life with sports.
The college students appreciated Verma's words and showed their talents in javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, race, long jump, high jump and hurdle race among others.
History student Sanjeev Ranjan said: "These activities inculcate a sense of discipline among us students. We also got an opportunity to know each other at the sports meet."
The new Patliputra University's vice-chancellor, Gulab Chand Ram Jaiswal, said AN College (to be inducted into Patliputra University) would soon emerge as the best institution for higher education in Bihar, as he spoke on the challenges for the new university in the days to come. AN College principal S.P. Shahi welcomed all the guests at the sports meet.
Coaching classes
JD Women's College, a constituent college of Magadh University, will soon train students in Madhubani painting and run coaching classes for National Eligibility Test preparations.
College principal Sashi Singh said: "The college administration will impart training on both the courses from its campus. Admission to these courses will, however, not be compulsory."
Admission to the NET coaching classes will be based on an entrance test following an increase in the interest among students to take up teaching as a career.
Surbhi Priya said: "The college administration's decision to start NET coaching centre is a welcome step. Various coaching institutes are providing coaching in engineering and medical entrance exams, but an institute for NET coaching is rare. It will definitely help students."
The institution, in collaboration with NGO Incept-An, also organised a seminar on cervical cancer on Tuesday. Sashi Singh and Mahavir Cancer Sansthan consultant radiation oncologist Richa Chauhan, the NGO founder Piyush Pushkal and National Service Scheme in-charge for JD Women's College Afsana Khatton were present.
Students were told about bringing lifestyle changes to protect themselves from cervical cancer. A question-answer session was also held.
