
Rossy Alexandra Henriquez Reyes, a student from Honduras, expressed gratitude to Tarumitra director Father Robert Athickal S.J. for giving her the opportunity to pursue her internship at the environmental organisation in Patna.
She was speaking during an interactive session with students of St Xavier's College and St Xavier's College of Management & Technology at De Nobili Hall in Patna on April 3.
Rossy, a student of bio environmental, engineering and social development at Zamorano University, said her country, Honduras, is also facing environmental issues and back home they have to do a lot of field work. But of all the countries she worked in, Rossy went on to say: "India made me feel most welcome."
Her internship started from January 16 and will end on April 26.
She has been visiting schools, conducting inter-school dialogues on pollution, relocating fully grown trees, proposing organic farming for sustainable development, working on conserving bio-diversity, and promoting ecological sensitisation.
Patna students associated with Tarumitra also said they learnt a lot from Rossy. One of them, Aniket said: "She told us a lot about what is done for such projects at her institute and country".
Tarumitra coordinator Devopriya Dutta thanked the students of St Xavier's College for support.
Job fair
The St Xavier's College of Management & Technology, Patna, organised its third open job fair on April 2. Total 38 companies participated in the fair offering jobs ranging from sales executive to operations manager.
The average salary was Rs 3.5 lakh per annum, and 500 job aspirants, including final-year students of the host college, participated in the programme.
The institution claimed that 93 per cent of its final-year students across seven streams, including arts, social sciences, management studies, commerce, and computer science, have been placed.
The day began with a short formal get-together with the recruitment teams and an interaction with human resource teams.
College principal Father T. Nishaant SJ welcomed all the companies and the aspirants and said the college placement team had developed a unique methodology to match the skill sets of aspirants with the job requirements of the companies, thereby ensuring a high placement percentage to the satisfaction of every one involved.
Karan, a commerce student, said: "The companies participating at the job fair recruited the students through a series of tests and interviews."
Scientist honour
Scientist Manas Bihari Verma was awarded the degree of doctor of science at the annual convocation of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga, on April 1.
He was awarded the degree for his contribution to science, especially in structuring the supersonic fighter plane Tejas.
Verma was associated with the Aeronautical Development Agency which developed Tejas. Governor Satya Pal Malik highlighted Verma's work and contribution at the ceremony.
Earlier, Malik said women can only be empowered through education and asked them to give more importance to education, especially job-oriented courses.
