Patna, Feb. 11: Patna High Court today directed the state government to constitute a committee to restore all medical and civic facilities at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) within four months after the latter admitted lack in both facilities.
A division bench comprising justices Shiva Kirti Singh and Gopal Prasad passed the direction on a PIL filed by a social activist, Guddu Baba, seeking restoration of the facilities at the hospital, which were in pathetic shape.
The court today directed the state chief secretary to constitute a committee comprising the principal secretaries of health, road construction, building construction, PMCH superintendent, Patna Municipal Corporation commissioner and the Patna district magistrate within three weeks.
The committee would supervise the development and maintenance work on the facilities such as removal of encroachments, construction of roads, drainage system, toilets, waterlogging, garbage, replacement of old and dysfunctional machines and equipment among other things.
The committee, which would complete all restoration work within four months, would submit a progress report to the court.
During the course of hearing, additional advocate-general (2) D.K. Sinha admitted there were infrastructural indiscrepancies at PMCH.
Sinha submitted that buildings, toilets, drainage system were in bad shape and urgently needed to be repaired at the earliest.
The government submitted the inspection report of a committee comprising the principal and superintendent of PMCH, executive engineers of public works department, the building construction department and the hospital manager.
