Patna, Aug. 16: School and college students, too, have joined Anna Hazare’s campaign against corruption.

While school students planned to write letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and used social networking sites to lodge a protest against Anna’s arrest, their seniors from college took out a march on the streets of Patna.

Students of Prarambhika have decided to sign a petition to be sent to the Prime Minister, asking the leader of the central government that if one man can bring about so many changes, then why not the people in power?

Naman Mittal, a Class IX student of the school and also the head boy, said: “My friends and I wanted to observe a fast to support Annaji’s cause. However, our principal and teachers explained to us that we could do other things to support Annaji.”

In an effort to express their solidarity to Anna’s cause, many of the children switched off the lights in their homes between 8pm and 9pm yesterday.

In April this year, when Anna launched his first agitation against corruption and started his indefinite fast for the Jan Lokpal Bill, the students of the school had written a letter to the President to request her to convince him to break his hunger strike.

Junaid Hussain Khan, a Class XII student of Dr D Ram DAV Public School, has put up a picture of Anna Hazare as his profile picture on Facebook. “I have done this to show my support for Anna Hazare in his fight against corruption. I will also attend an event to support him. We should try to make more people aware of our cause so that they can join us.” He also said if the need arises, he and his friends would also take to the streets to protest, as it was their fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution.

College students took out a protest march. Deepak Kumar Gupta, one of the protesters, said: “We support Anna Hazare. We can go to any extent to support his fight against corruption.”
