Patna: Governor-cum-chancellor of universities in Bihar Satya Pal Malik on Monday directed vice-chancellors to speed up the process of providing free wi-fi at colleges and universities.
At the meeting it came to fore that the education department has completed the process of providing Wifi facilities at 290 colleges and universities but there has not been much progress in user enrolment. User enrolment is the number of students, teachers and non-teaching staff of universities and colleges availing wi-fi.
For enrolment, colleges and universities have to provide identity and password to the user.
At the meeting, the chancellor directed the VCs to speed up the process of providing user id and password to students, teachers and non-teaching staff, who were left out in the first phase (July-August). Colleges and universities have to issue a notice asking students, teachers and non-teaching staff to get the user id and password.
The user id and password can be provided to beneficiaries after submission of name, roll number and academic year.
A senior teacher with Patna Science College said: "In the July-August phase we provided wi-fi to only third-year undergraduate students as admission to first and second year was yet to be completed in the new academic session."
The free wi-fi facility is one of the schemes under chief minister Nitish Kumar's much-acclaimed seven resolves.
The chancellor also asked the VCs to construct washrooms at educational institutions. Malik directed the VCs to construct toilets on priority basis with March 2018 fixed as the deadline.
Malik also asked them to conduct Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (cleanliness drive) at colleges and universities.
The VCs have been directed to conduct the abhiyan either in the last week of December or first week of January involving National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme volunteers. The VCs have been asked to submit the report by January 5 on the abhiyan.
The chancellor reviewed the progress of grievance redress cell, biometric attendance at colleges and postgraduate departments, budget and preparation of universities on student union election.
