Patna: The Gaya police special investigation team (SIT) on Sunday nabbed a prime accused in Wednesday's gang-rape of a woman and her teenaged daughter, taking the arrests in the shocking case to four.

"The main accused was taken into custody during a raid on Saturday night; we will disclose his identity later," a senior IPS officer said.

Police sources said the three persons arrested earlier and now in judicial custody - Shivam Sharma, Gaurav Sharma and Dipak Paswan - have confessed. Two of the arrested had earlier been accused of misbehaving with a schoolteacher and molesting a girl.

A forensic team has also found a diary from Wednesday's crime scene, with names and mobile numbers of several people of the area. A temporary police outpost has been set up near Guraru Bazar, close to the crime scene which is under the jurisdiction of Koch police station.

"That is a crime-prone area and police patrolling is almost negligent on the road at night," said a police officer.

JDU slams RJD

JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar on Sunday lambasted the RJD fact-finding team's behaviour with the 15-year-old rape survivor. "The RJD leaders compelled the rape survivor to narrate her ordeal several times before the media. It shows the insensitivity of the leaders of the party," he said.
