Gaya: Thanks to digitisation and a pilot project for online application and seat allotment the implementation of Right to Education (RTE) Act has gained momentum in Gaya.
Against 600 admissions under the act in 2017, no less than 3,686 children belonging to the economically weaker sections have applied for 2,268 RTE seats available in 285 private schools in Gaya, including nearly a dozen reputable schools run either by the corporate sector or Christian missionaries. As per the provisions of the act, private schools are required to reserve 25 percent of the Class-I seats for economically weaker sections.
District programme officer Asghar Khan said 900 private schools applied for recognition under unified district information system of education and 285 schools have been recognised and 200 applications are being processed. Most of the remaining 400 applications lack supporting documents.
