The Centre has cleared the funds for the development of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) so that it could offer facilities similar to the ones at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

The central government approved the expenditure to be incurred on the upgrade and development of the SKMCH in the recently presented budget.

Sharing this information with The Telegraph, the principal of the SKMCH, D.K. Sinha, said the Centre had asked him to forward a detailed proposal for the upgrade and overall development of SKMCH. Sinha said he hurriedly involved a private consultancy firm from New Delhi to prepare the estimates. The SKMCH sent a proposal of Rs 150 crore.

The Centre would provide Rs 135 crore and the state government would shoulder the remaining expenses.

The superintendent of the SKMCH, G.K. Thakur, said the hospital had furnished a proposal for 600 beds in the health hub.

The principal said he had collected details of the requisite need of infrastructure and apparatus from the heads of various departments of the college and incorporated the details in the proposal.

The SKMCH has decided to construct three palatial buildings on the sprawling premises of the hospital. There will be three blocks in each building.

In the proposal, the SKMCH has sought creation of new departments like surgery, including plastic surgery, nephrology, gastroenterology, central pathology and an infertility clinic. Besides, it speaks about enriching the college library.
