Patna, March 22: Celebrations call for yummy delicacies. And the Bihar Divas carnival is no different. From starters to main courses, the event promises a grand feast with fest.
It is all happening at the food court on the Gandhi Maidan grounds. For three days, you can literally taste Bihar.
Appetisers such as spicy kachrees made of pulses to littis soaked in ghee and chokhas are on offer.
The kachrees have come from the 101-year-old Nandu Lalji Kachori shop in Patna City.
“Nandu Lalji was my great grandfather. Now, I am looking after the shop. Come to Patna City and ask anyone, they will know,” said Jitendra Kumar, who has put up a stall at Gandhi Maidan.
Two pieces of litti and chokha are priced at Rs 15. Kachree comes at Rs 10.
If the kachrees or littis do not delight you, here is Mithilanchal’s tarua or flattened balls made from tilkor leaves fried in oil to tickle your taste buds.
“It is a speciality of Madhubani, a terrific appetiser that everyone would love,” said Ashok Kumar, a stall owner.
But do not go all out on the appetisers or you could miss out on the main course.
The aroma of East Champaran’s taash or deep-fried mutton is bound to lure you towards the stall of Jamuna Patel from Motihari.
“Taash includes fried and spicy mutton served with rice or chura (flattened rice). If you taste it, you will surely want to have a second helping. There is also do piyaza and mutton kebabs. Taash is priced at Rs 100 a plate,” said Patel.
If red meat is not your thing, you can gorge on Mithilanchal’s fish curry.
Also, people who do not fancy a spicy main course can opt for dahi-chura, again a Mithilanchal speciality.
“We have fish curry here as well. There is rohu, tangra and katla variety. They are really popular in our region. And we are sure Patna residents will love them too,” added Ashok Kumar.
There are also juices and iced lassi to beat the sweltering heat.
Sudha dairy stalls are selling lassi, sweet curd and others.
For children, there are stalls selling ice cream.
Any meal seems incomplete without a dessert. And you can have a dishful of it at the maidan.
There is makhana ka kheer from Mithilanchal. Hajipur’s famous sweetmeat made from yam is priced at Rs 6 apiece. Runi Saidpur’s famous balushaahi is available for Rs 7 a piece.
Patna City’s khurchan made of milk, tilkut from Gaya, imarti from Banka, crispy khaja from Silao and laddoo from Maner are also available.
